West Des Moines Police crack huge ATM skimmer case

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa-  A man and woman have pleaded guilty in a big  ATM skimming device case in West Des Moines.   

Police say Evaldo Cardoza Da Silva and Jamily Silva-Sousa have pleaded guilty to Ongoing Criminal Conduct in Polk County Court, and both received the maximum sentence under Iowa law, up to 25-years in prison.

Skimmers were found at a West Des Moines convenience store ATM in May of this year, turns out it was just the tip of the iceberg.  

Detectives found dozens of skimmers and two suspects, accused of using the information to forge credit cards and steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from ATMS.

Police arrested Da Silva and Sousa in June.  Detectives recovered a credit card embossing machine and forged credit cards, they also seized more than 267-thousand dollars, and 60-thousand dollars from bank accounts.   

Police say the case started with one customer who spotted the skimmer.
