DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa - This might be a disappointing year for fall colors in Iowa.
Visitors to Dubuque County this weekend, in northeastern Iowa, report is the colors are not as bright as usual.
"It's nice that you can overlook and see so far." Curtis King tells KCRG TV 9. "I wish the leaves were a little more colorful."
King says it was still worth the drive to Dubuque County just to see the beautiful scenery.
"The color would be more nice if it was more brilliant, but, this is still nice. At least the sun's out." He said.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the heavy rain is to blame for the duller than usual fall leaf colors.
Northern Iowa colors have already peaked this weekend.
Central and East Central Iowa is expected to peak this week.
Southeastern Iowa should see peak colors starting next weekend.
