AMES, Iowa- Iowa State University Entomologist Laura Jesse says she's had a lot of phone calls about an insect that's relatively new to Iowa, the Brown Marmorated (marbled) stink bug, which has been creeping into Iowans' homes as the weather turns colder.
She says the insect's antennae have white patches, and if there are several of these insects in your home, you may notice an odor, similar to the herb cilantro, especially when the insects are stepped on or smashed.
Boxelder bugs and lady beetles are also common this time of year. Jesse says these insects depend on moisture, and don't typically last long, in a dry house during the colder months.
