ANNAPOLIS, Maryland- The (future) USS Sioux City has arrived at Annapolis, Maryland.  It's the first ship to be named after Iowa's 4th-largest city.

The ship will be commissioned Saturday, November 17th at the US Naval Academy, and will be assigned to the 5th Fleet in the  Persian Gulf.

The U.S. Navy says the Freedom-variant littoral combat ship (LCS) is a modular, reconfigurable ship.  The Navy says it's designed to meet requirements for surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and mine countermeasures missions.
