Driver killed in I-80 crash in Iowa County

IOWA COUNTY, Iowa-  A driver ran a stop sign at the end of an I-80 exit ramp overnight and died when the car they were driving, crashed and caught fire.

The Iowa State Patrol says the car vaulted over a creek, and ignited when it hit the ground, east of Williamsburg, in Iowa County.

The crash happened shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday near mile marker 225, along eastbound I-80.   Authorities say the driver of a Nissan Versa exited the interstate, and failed to stop at the end of the exit ramp, crossing U Avenue (Highway 151) before leaving the road and ending up in a ditch.

The driver's name has not been released.
