New Polk County, Iowa Sheriff sworn in

DES MOINES, Iowa-   Polk County has a new sheriff.   Kevin Schneider was sworn into office today (Tuesday).   He replaces longtime Sheriff Bill McCarthy, filling out the rest of McCarthy's term.  

The 70-year old McCarthy announced his retirement last month, ending a nearly 50-year career in law enforcement.  

McCarthy became Polk County Sheriff in 2008.  Prior to that he was with the Des Moines Police Department, including serving as Chief of Police.
