Crash near Pella, Iowa kills North Dakota woman

MARION COUNTY, Iowa-  The Iowa State Patrol says a North Dakota woman was killed in a head-on, wrong-way crash Wednesday night near Pella.

Authorities say 65-year-old Esther Hockett of Bowman, North Dakota was going east in the westbound lanes of Highway 163, around 7:30 p.m. when her SUV hit a livestock-truck head-on.

Hockett was ejected and died.   The driver of the semi, 56-year-old Kevin Goodman of Haverhill, Iowa was not injured.

The semi, which was hauling 75 cattle, flipped, and some cattle got loose.  Crews rounded up most of them, but seven were killed.
