Part of Stuart, Iowa evacuated after tanker rolls into ditch

STUART, Iowa-  Part of  Stuart, in Adair County was evacuated today (Monday), after a truck hauling propane went into a ditch and went on its side.   Authorities say the truck driver took a corner too sharply when turning into a parking lot and went into a ditch.  The driver was not hurt, and the propane did not leak.  A couple dozen residents who live near the area went to a nearby church until they got the "all clear."

Channel 13 WHO-TV reports the truck tipped over near the corner of Front and Main streets.

Bob Kempf of the Guthrie and Adair County Emergency Management office says they got lucky.

"Just the simple fact that it's not leaking because then it's such a large area that we might need to evacuate. If the wind was out of the south, it would be blowing it right into town if it was leaking. Pretty much everything that has happened has been on the good side," Kempf.
