ANKENY, Iowa- One person is dead after an incident which prompted an evacuation of a number Ankeny businesses today (Thursday). Officers were called to a business at 106 SW Linden in Ankeny around 12:45 p.m. today (Thursday), after a report of gunfire.
Ankeny Police Lieutenant Brian Kroska tells WHO Radio News highly trained officers from multiple agencies responded to the scene, and nearby residents and employees at local businesses near SW Linden Street and West 1st Street were told to shelter in place. Police also evacuated about 20 people from nearby businesses as a precaution.
Police attempted to communicate with a man inside a business, but when they got no response, they entered the building and found the man deceased. Police say the man, in his 40s, had recently been fired from his job and took his own life. The shelter in place order ended at approximately 2 p.m.
