I don't watch awards shows, but DO follow who wins. And wins are BIG for the shows and movies that are spotlighted. Case in point: Bohemian Rhapsody just won Golden Globes for Best Actor and Best Drama. Now it's being re-released in a sing-a-long version.
You may remember my review of the movie - I LOVED Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury and thought the "Live Aid" scene was exhilarating. But overall, the movie was pretty formulaic in its approach. And it IS the worst-reviewed Golden Globe winner in 33 years.
That said, awards bring another golden opportunity for movie studios to make money. In the aftermath of the Golden Globes wins, a new sing-along version of the film “Bohemian Rhapsody” is set to screen in theaters this weekend.
The Golden Globe-winning movie is going to expand to over one-thousand-300 theaters tomorrow. As many as 750 of those will show a sing-along edition, with lyrics appearing on screen.
Meanwhile, the film will be released on digital home video January 22nd, and on DVD and Blu-ray February 12th.
Another thought on the movie: it won't be as powerful on your home screen as in the theater. I LOVE the Queen music coming over those wonderful theater speakers.
