Lawyers for Mollie Tibbetts' accused killer want trial delayed

POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa-  Attorneys for the man accused of killing Mollie Tibbetts are asking for a new trial date to be set.    Christian Rivera's attorney's say they need more time, because many discovery documents have just been disclosed within the past month, including the most recent version of the DCI's investigation.

Rivera is charged with first degree murder in the death of Tibbetts last summer, in Poweshiek County.

The 20-year-old University of Iowa student went missing while jogging in her hometown of Brooklyn, July 18th, 2018.  Her body was found more than a month later.

Rivera admitted to police he followed Mollie, but that he blacked out and doesn't remember anything until realizing Mollie was in the trunk of his car.   Rivera's trial date is currently scheduled to begin April 16th.
