Iowa mayor, husband busted for growing marijuana

GUTHRIE COUNTY, Iowa-  Jamaica, Iowa Mayor Ladonna Kennedy has been arrested, along with her husband, Randy Kennedy, after a search turned up a marijuana grow operation inside their residence.

The Guthrie County Sheriff's Office says they were called to 500 1st Avenue in Jamaica on a tip that Randy Halterman, who's wanted for Attempted Murder in Story County, might be at the home.

Authorities conducted a search warrant, and found 18 live marijuana plants and nine packages of marijuana.  Halterman was not there.

Ladonna and Randy Kennedy were arrested and booked into the Guthrie County Jail on the following charges: manufacture with intent to deliver no more than 50 kilograms of marijuana, class D felony; two counts of failure to affix a drug stamp, class D felonies; one count of knowingly keeping a dwelling for possessing or selling a controlled substance, an aggravated misdemeanor; and possession of a controlled substance – first offense, a serious misdemeanor.

Both parties were initially held on $18,300 bond. Both parties were released by a Dallas County Magistrate (filling in for the Guthrie County Magistrate) on their own recognizance on 01/17/2019.

Ladonna Kennedy was most recently elected mayor in 2017.
