West Des Moines, Iowa employer planning to add 200 jobs

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa-  A large insurance employer in West Des Moines is getting larger, and making plans for a new building near Jordan Creek Town Center.

West Des Moines Director of Community and Economic Development Clyde Evans tells WHO Radio News Sammons Financial Group plans to build a 200,000 square foot building and add about 200 jobs, to it's current workforce of around 600.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board has granted $65 million in tax incentives to Sammons.   The IEDA agreement states Sammons agrees to create 125 jobs, with wages of $30.32 per hour.   Evans says Sammons plans to add an additional 75 lower wage positions.

Evans says the company has the option to buy property on the SW corner of Mills Civic Parkway and 81st Street for the new building.  The city is planning on a number of street widening projects in the area.

Evans says construction may begin this spring, with completion some time in 2020.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board has also approved incentives for AWOL Outdoor of Albia, RACOM of Marshalltown, and two Iowa City start-up companies.
