DES MOINES, Iowa - A family escaped a house fire in Des Moines on Tuesday night, which pitted firefighters against frigid temperatures.
A witness spotted the fire at around 11:30 near 36th Street and Ingersoll.
The cold temperatures froze the water left in and around the house, making for a dangerous situation.
WHO Channel 13 reports firefighters stayed warm by taking turns sitting in ambulances and DART city buses.
Investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started.
