Two dogs left outdoors in dangerous Iowa cold rescued

Two dogs left chained up out in a yard in the bitter, record cold in Iowa Tuesday have been rescued.

The Animal Rescue League says Sophie and Chloe were left chained up outside. Their only shelter was a thin plastic dog kennel and a homemade dog house, without bedding or insulation. Both dog houses were filled with snow, and the water bowl was frozen. Other dogs were kept inside the house, in sight of the two dogs that were out in the yard.

ARL says the dogs were in rough shape, and are now recuperating at now at the animal shelter.

The exact location of the dogs is not given, but Animal Rescue League says charged are pending against the dogs' owner.
