Public Works crews repairing potholes after weekend thaw

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Once the snow and ice disappear in the Des Moines area, potholes often become the next problem.

More than 50 pothole complaints prompted four Des Moines Public Works crews to get started on repairs on Monday.

Sometimes as many as 100 potholes could be repaired in a single day across the 2,200 miles of roads in the Metro.

The cold mix that asphalt crews are using right now is only a temporary fix. Once summer arrives, a hot mix is added to provide a long-term solution.

Crews want the public to report potholes and they also ask people to slow down as crews work to repair them.

To report a pothole, go to the My DSM mobile app or call 515-283-4973.
