DES MOINES, Iowa - They say it isn't over till it's over, and it isn't over, yet.
As predicted, heavy snow fell across much of Iowa, including the Des Moines metro area from Saturday night into Sunday. Snow started falling in Des Moines around 8:30 p.m. and it is expected to continue on and off through much of the day Sunday.
The heaviest snow fell to the west of Des Moines, where 7, 8, 9.0 inches at Winterset, and even 9.5 inches of snow at Atlantic. The I-80 corridor west of Des Moines is listed as no travel advised by the Iowa Department of Transportation at 8:20 a.m. Sunday. Many roads west and southwest of Des Moines are also listed as no travel advised.
A part of the I-80 east corridor from about Mitchellville east almost to Grinnel is also no travel advised.
6.5 inches of snow is measured early Sunday morning at two locations in Des Moines. 6.5 inches of snow at the WHO TV Channel 13 studios in the Western Gateway district on the western edge of downtown, as well as 6.5 inches 1.9 miles SE of the Des Moines Airport.
Urbandale reports 8.0 inches of snow, Ankeny 7.0, and Marshalltown 6.0.
