CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Firefighters found heavy flames and smoke inside a Cedar Rapids apartment building Thursday morning just after 8:30. One man was carried out by a firefighter, reportedly with life-threatening injuries.
Three other people are also hospitalized, but are expected to survive, and several others were checked by medics at the scene. One firefighter has minor injuries.
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department says the fire and smoke was thick on the second floor of the 16-unit complex and firefighters had to use ladders to get into the second floor units to rescue people still inside.
