DES MOINES, Iowa - A new cold temperature record was set in Des Moines on Sunday.
"We set a record cold high temperature of 9 degrees. That tied the old record set back in 2002." National Weather Service Meterologist Brooke Hagenhoff tells WHO Radio news.
She says we came close to another new record Monday morning, but didn't not quite make it.
"Our record low for today is -9 which was set in 1978." Hagenhoff says. Des Moines reached -5 degrees just before 7:00 a.m. before the temperature started warming up, again.
We asked Hagenhoff what's ahead for the month of March.
"It's tough to say when you get out that much in advance." She says. "Some of our long-range models are indicating colder-than normal temperatures for the entire month."
The first day of Spring is 16 days away.
