Gas prices rise 16 cents over the last two weeks

DES MOINES, Iowa - Over the last two weeks, the price for regular unleaded gas went up 16-cents, for a national average of $2.66 per gallon.

According to AAA, the average price for regular unleaded in Iowa is $2.58.

The average for regular unleaded in Des Moines is $2.59 and the average price for diesel fuel is $2.88 per gallon.

KCRG-TV 9 reports the average in Cedar Rapids for regular unleaded is $2.63. The average in Iowa City is $2.60, and in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area, it's $2.64. The average price in Davenport is $2.57 for regular unleaded.

Experts said the price is up because supplies are tight as refineries undergo maintenance ahead of the summer driving season.
