Des Moines City Council considers Blank Park Zoo water plan

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Des Moines City Council will consider an agreement today to deal with Blank Park Zoo's unpaid million dollar water bill. The city's Water Works says the zoo, which got free water, wasn't eligible for discount--and hadn't been since 2003. The City Council's considering a plan where the zoo pays for 20 percent of it's water by 2023. Council member Joe Gatto says since the city owns the zoo, it should get free or discounted water like any other city facility. He's concerned the remaining water bill will be passed on to Des Moines taxpayers.
