Former Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice dies

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Former Iowa Iowa Supreme Court Arthur Justice McGiverin has died. He was 90. McGiverin served on court the from 1978 until his retirement in 2000. He was chief justice from 1987 to 2000. After two tours of duty in the U.S. Army, the Ottumwa native attended the University of Iowa earning his bachelor's and law degrees in 1951 and 1956 respectively. McGiverin practiced law in Ottumwa and served as a part-time municipal judge. He was appointed to the Iowa District Court in 1965.
