Norfolk shooting leads to standoff with police

NORFOLK, Neb.- A shooting in Norfolk leads to a police standoff.

Police say a shooting happened Sunday morning and people were advised to stay clear of the area.

According to News 6, Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk told News Channel Nebraska numerous law enforcement agencies were involved.

“Everyone is working together to try to get this alleviated in the safest possible way. Right now we are in a phase were we just have to wait a little bit and start communications with the suspect and hopefully come to a peaceful resolution,” said Sheriff Volk.

Investigators say the shooting victim drove himself to a police station and was then taken to a hospital.

Police say the suspect barricaded himself in a home in the 700 to 900 block of Koenigstein Avenue and tear gas was shot into the house around 6 p.m.
