MUSCATINE, Iowa - An Eastern Iowa county now receives texts to 911.
Muscatine County is now one of 97 counties in the state of Iowa that can respond to emergency texts.
According to Chris Jasper with MUSCOM, all six phone carriers now offer the service.
Texting to emergency officials can be helpful if a person does not want to be heard reaching out for help.
“Anytime they don't feel safe or they don't want someone to hear them talking on 911. They can now text and it will basically be silent where they are,” said Jasper.
According to KWQC TV 6, Rock Island County also offers the 911 text service, but Scott County and Moline County are still working on it.
