Heatwave coming to Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois with no end in sight MAP

DES MOINES, Iowa - Another heatwave is beginning this weekend across the Nebraska-Iowa-Illinois region, and there's no end in sight.

"The heatwave we're expecting to go to the end of the seven-day forecast period, so right now, there's no end in sight, really." Says National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Zogg. Some forecasts show it continuing beyond that.

"Temperatures that we're looking at starting this weekend and through next week are five to ten degrees above normal." He says. And, it's not just the heat, it's the humidity, with southern winds bringing up moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, and Midwest corn and soybean crops adding moisture to the air, too.

"We're expecting a return of humid conditions along with the heat, so it's going to feel sticky out there, and the heat index values will be pretty high." Zogg says.
