DES MOINES, Iowa - A busy Des Moines fire station is open again.
Fire Station Number 3, at Easton Boulevard near Hubbell Avenue, closed down last month for repairs to the 70-year-old building.
The renovations include a new staircase, which gives crews another way to get to their trucks in addition to the fire pole.
The station serves parts of eastern and northeastern Des Moines. Officials say they want to have Station Number 3 in a new building by 2040.
WHO-TV 13 reports the price tag for the project reached $200,000.
A new fire station at Hubbell Avenue and East 42nd Street is expected to open in spring 2021.
