CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Alliant Energy announced a partial settlement agreement on Thursday while the company continues to review energy rates.
A spokesperson tells KCRG-TV9 that customers can still expect to see their rates go up in 2020, but not by as much. The spokesperson didn't reveal what the new rate would be.
Despite the announcement, the Marion City Council approved a declaration on Thursday to oppose Alliant Energy’s original 25% rate hike.
The Iowa Utilities Board has the final say and the council said it wants to have its voice heard. City leaders said if the Iowa Utilities Board approved that high of an increase it could mean the city would pay an extra $125 thousand and residents and businesses could be up for millions more.
The Iowa Utilities Board will still have to approve the settlement. A hearing will be held on Monday.
