As part of my duties as "burgermeister" of Des Moines Oktoberfest, I got to "supervise" Brooks Reynolds, founder of Bacon Fest, tapping the first keg of beer at the Fest and serving free brewskis to attendees who showed up for the beginning of the celebration.
There's not many people who have done more to promote bacon than Brooks. But Smithfield Brands and NASCAR are going to try!
The fine folks at Smithfield Brands are offering up a contest that will reward 10 lucky people with bacon. LOTS AND LOTS of bacon.
It all hinges on Aric Almirola, NASCAR driver of the No. 10 Smithfield Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing. If he places first at Talladega Superspeedway on October 13th, he and Smithfield will give 10 lucky grand prize winners 100,000 slices of Smithfield bacon each, amounting to 6,250 packages per person.
That's enough bacon happiness to last a lifetime.
