DES MOINES, Iowa - Suddenly, the extended late summer rainy season is ended and fall color viewing season is here.
There is a chance the heavy rain will lead to an average or less than average color show, but the peak viewing times are already started.
The best fall color viewing is right now across Northern Iowa, with peak color viewing starting last week and continuing through about October 10.
In Central Iowa, an area running from Council Bluffs, through Des Moines and Ames, and on through Cedar Rapids to Davenport and Dubuque, peak colors should start this week and run through around October 19.
Southern Iowa's peak colors come last, from about the middle to end of October.
