WHO listeners are pretty perceptive. While the Sanders campaign insisted that Bernie Sanders underwent a routine heart stent procedure after suffering chest pains, our listeners noted that he was remaining in the hospital longer than necessary. Yes, he had a heart attack, and, yes, he should quit.
He is insisting he won't - and, of course, that's his choice. No one else - except for, perhaps his wife, can convince him otherwise.
The Vermont independent senator told reporters that he'll "change the nature" of his campaign. The 78-year-old explained that he'll likely cut down the number of rallies each day. Before he landed in the hospital, there were about 10 campaign duties, including meetings and rallies, on his schedule daily.
He is off the campaign trail until the October 15 debate. But there are two reasons he should actually quit.
1) Campaigning is unhealthy. Voters will constantly worry (especially when Bernie gets worked up) that he is going to hurt himself. Which leads to point
2) He was already losing supporters to Elizabeth Warren because Iowans and others attending campaign events believe she'll conduct a better campaign against President Trump. This will reinforce this position.
I expect that Bernie will continue to drop in the polls but, because of the huge amount of money he's raised, he can continue as long as HE wants to campaign. And he probably will - even though its unwise, unhealthy, and unproductive.
