Check Halloween Candy For THC-Laced Nerds

Yes, I know. Every year Halloween brings a slew of "check your kids' candy for..." stories, many of which are just not credible. Unfortunately, this story IS credible: police in Pennsylvania discovered “Nerds Rope edibles containing 400mg THC” while executing a search warrant.

The police department in Johnston, Pennsylvania put out a warning on Facebook.

"During this Halloween, we urge parents to be ever vigilant in checking their children's candy before allowing them to consume those treats," the department’s post explains. "Drug laced edibles are packaged like regular candy and may be hard to distinguish from the real candy."

Photos of the edibles show them labeled as “Nerds Rope” with warning labels reading “for medical use only” and “keep out of reach of children and animals.” The company that makes Nerds candy, Ferrara Candy Company, says this is a counterfeit product and is no way associated with them. The FDA has issued a list of Halloween food safety tips to protect kids and warns parents not to let their trick-or-treaters dig into their candy until an adult carefully inspects it.
