Election night runoffs set for Des Moines and Cedar Falls

DES MOINES, Iowa - The race for Des Moines mayor moves to a runoff after last night's elections.

Incumbent Mayor Frank Cownie and challenger Jack Hatch are the leading vote-getters garnering the most votes over Army veteran Chase Holm and retired teacher and coach Joe Grandanette.

Meanwhile, Black Hawk County Auditor Grant Veeder said in social media posts last night that the city council races for an at-large seat and in District 4 in Cedar Falls appeared to also be headed to a runoff.

None of the candidates cleared the 50 percent threshold to earn a seat.

The runoff elections will take place December 3rd.
