Julian Castro thinks order of primary states should change

Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro will campaign in Cedar Rapids on Monday, just one day after comments about Iowa's first-in-the-nation status.

Castro appeared on MSNBC Sunday from Iowa City and said the order in which states, including Iowa and New Hampshire, vote needs to be changed.

"I actually believe we do need to change the order of the states because I don't believe we're the same country we were in 1972. That's when Iowa first held its caucus first, and by the time we have the next presidential election in 2024, it'll have been more than 50 years since 1972. Our country's changed a lot in those 50 years.

In the interview, Castro said Iowa and New Hampshire are not “reflective of the United States as a whole, certainly not reflective of the Democratic Party, and I believe that other states should have their chance.”

Castro also gave a shout out to Iowans and those in New Hampshire, saying he's grateful to people who attend town halls and listen to what candidates have to say.
