One dead after officer involved shooting in Fort Madison, Iowa

FORT MADISON, Iowa -- Authorities are investigating a officer-involved shooting Tuesday night in Fort Madison, resulted in a man's death.

Fort Madison Police were called to a local manufacturing warehouse just before 11 p.m. Tuesday night, about an individual armed with a handgun.

Upon arrival, law enforcement encountered the individual who was subsequently shot by a Fort Madison police officer. The subject, whose name has not been released yet, died at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

The Fort Madison Police Department contacted the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to request an independent investigation into the shooting. Per protocol, the name of the police officer is being withheld pending an interview with the DCI.
