Jasper County Sheriff: Bicyclist hit, killed by semi

DES MOINES, Iowa - A bicyclist in Jasper County is dead after he was hit by a semi-truck. Sheriff's officials were called to the scene on Highway 6 near Kellogg at 4:30 this morning.

"The reporting party indicated that a semi-tractor trailer had struck an individual on a bicycle," said Jasper County Sheriff John Halferty.

Sheriff Halferty tells WHO Radio News the man on the bike was pronounced dead at the scene.

The task now is identifying the man.

"So we're asking for the public's help. The person's described as a white male, he's in his 30s with brown hair. We're estimating he's about 5'8" and 160 pounds and we think he was wearing glasses at the time."

The driver of the semi stopped after the accident and is cooperating with the investigation.
