Democratic candidates to "redouble" efforts ahead of Iowa Caucuses

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The last weeks before the Iowa Caucuses will see Democratic Presidential candidates putting their campaigns to the test and hoping to get hot on Caucus night.

"You'll see a redoubling, and another redoubling, and a further redoubling of efforts to contact supporters--to try and make sure they turn up at the caucuses and to win over anyone still possibly interested in attending" says Drake University Political Science Professor Dennis Goldford .

He says the Democratic candidates field so full that the top four Caucus finishers could still have life beyond Iowa.

"Nobody's gone on to win a nomination who's finished who's finished any worse than third. But, that's not an iron-clad rule (in 2020) as it is such a huge group" Goldford says.

He also says while it's possible candidates could drop out of the race before the February 3rd caucuses, the field is probably pretty well set. Goldford says there is clearly a top-tier and bottom tier of candidates.
