After a brief warmup Thursday into the 50's, winter weather quickly moves back into Iowa Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service says northwesterly winds later Thursday and overnight will drop temperatures back to and below freezing, allowing for snow to prevail across much of the state by Friday afternoon through Saturday.
Forecasters say the snowfall will come in two rounds, the first will be Friday evening and the second Saturday afternoon and early evening. Current snowfall forecasts for Des Moines, Iowa City and Ames call for around 1" to 2"
Areas like Lamoni, Ottumwa, and Pella could be closer to the 2" to 4" or 3" to 5" ranges. The National Weather Service says if you are traveling around the state Friday or Saturday pay attention to forecasts and allow yourself extra time to get where your going safely.
