AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa Department of Transportation is keeping a close eye on the winter storm moving into the state.
"From a staffing standpoint, an operational standpoint, our folks have been monitoring the weather forecast. As is usual practice, we're getting all our equipment ready, making sure everything is operational" says DOT Winter Operations Administrator Craig Bargfrede.
He says they're paying close attention to how the storm comes into the state.
"If we get a significant amount of rain prior to it changing over to snow and we've gone out and done pre-treatment. A lot of that material obviously will wash off the road and not be as effective as possible" Bargfrede says.
The National Weather Service says Central Iowa could see four to six inches of snow, with eight to 12 inches possible in Eastern Iowa.
