State Lawmakers Head Back To Des Moines Monday

State Lawmakers are heading back to Des Moines starting Monday. The first week of the legislative session is mostly ceremonial, but there are early hints about some of the issues that might come up this year. Governor Reynolds is expected to ask for tax cuts.

"Do we start with personal income tax and try to get that more competitive," says Governor Kim Reynolds. "Corporate tax is out of wack. We just have to make sure that as we're doing this that we can sustain it and that we are still able to fund some of the priorities."

Reynolds gives her "Condition of the State" speech Tuesday. The House Speaker will be Pat Grassley, a New Hartford Republican and grand-son of U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley.

The House Minority Leader, will be Democrat Todd Prichard of Charles City. Democrats are expected to encourage more support for current budget obligations and for rural hospitals, education, and mental health care.
