Next big wave of snow for Iowa coming Friday

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Winter Storm is forecast to move across Iowa on Friday with moderate to heavy snowfall expected across most of the state.

The National Weather Service is warning that travel will be extremely difficult to dangerous across large stretches of the state, especially northern Iowa. In addition to heavy snow, low visibility due to blowing snow is also expected.

The latest weather service map of snowfall accumulations from Wednesday morning shows projections of 6-8 inches across northern Iowa with 4-6 inches forecast for other parts of the state. The Des Moines metro area could see up to seven inches, while Cedar Rapids and Davenport could see up to six inches through Friday night.. Mixed precipitation is possible Friday night across southern Iowa.

The weather service expects the worst conditions to be in northern Iowa. Blowing snow will reduce visibility and make travel dangerous across most of the state.
