JOHNSTON, Iowa -- Another weekend, and another winter storm's coming into Iowa.
The National Weather Service says the storm will come in to the state early Friday morning as snow.
"It'll be moving in here mid-morning, and probably continue into the afternoon hours. The snow may be intense at times when it's falling" says Weather Service Meteorologist Cory Martin.
After dumping anywhere from three to six inches of snow across Iowa, Martin says the precipitation will change to freezing rain and drizzle by Friday afternoon.
"Mid- to late afternoon, could be right around our evening commute. We're going to have strong south winds through the day, and even though we we're not going to be above freezing at the surface, conditions will be right up above our heads for us to start having freezing rain and freezing drizzle" he says
Martin also says the winter storm will bring strong winds and falling temperatures to Iowa through the day Saturday.
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect across Iowa Friday morning through Saturday evening.
