DES MOINES, Iowa - Widespread snowfall is moving through the region from Eastern Nebraska through Iowa and continuing eastward into Illinois through the afternoon hours.
Snow will be heavy at times. Drivers should expect quickly worsening road conditions due to slick roads and limited visibility from blowing snow.
The snow is expected to change into freezing rain or drizzle, with generally up to 0.10" (a tenth of an inch) of ice accumulation on roads, sidewalks, power lines, and trees.
Then winds will become strong into Saturday, with bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills. In some areas blizzard conditions are expected. In much of the rest of the region, travel will be treacherous with blowing and drifting snow and low visibility at times across the region.
