WAUKEE, Iowa -- A new 66 acre community park and sports complex is being planned for the city of Waukee.
"It's going to have an 11 acre lake where people are going to be able to kayak, canoe, and fish. The DNR has already made commitments to stocking the lake. You're going to have some water sports, all of the ball fields, and the playground" says Waukee Betterment Foundation Board President Todd McDonald.
He says the new Triumph Park to have something for everyone--regardless of their physical abilities.
"The all-inclusive nature of the park really is a triumph for a lot of people to be able to do things others take for granted. That's why we're so excited for the name of the park to be Triumph Park" he says.
McDonald says a 15,000 square foot all-inclusive playground will be built near the city's Miracle League Park.
He says Apple, Inc., which is building a new data center in Waukee has pledged $1 million to it's $3 million dollar construction cost. McDonald says the Foundation has more than half that money already raised.
The City of Waukee wants to have the new Triumph Park facility open in 2022.
