Central Iowa bus plant closing

Newton, Iowa - Nearly 150 employees will be affected by the closing of a central Iowa bus manufacturing plant.

TPI Composites in Newton, which produces bodies for electric buses, is folding its Iowa operations into a plant in Rhode Island.

A company news release said the workers will be offered jobs at its Newton wind blade factory, which employs roughly 1,000 people.

The bus plant is scheduled to close February 29th.

The Newton Daily News reports that a manager at the bus plant said it's closing due to it's "inability to attract and maintain the requisite employee base.”

The manager also said that although the wind blade employs employs more than 1,000 people, it's still understaffed.
