New ISU poll shows Sanders leading just before Iowa Caucuses

AMES, Iowa -- An new Iowa State University poll of Democratic Presidential candidates has a new front-runner.

"For the first time in our five months of polls, Bernie Sanders is in first with 24-percent. After that, we've got Elizabeth Warren at 19, Pete Buttigeig at 17, Joe Biden at 15, and then Amy Klobuchar up at 11 percent" says ISU Political Science professor David Peterson.

He says the final ISU/Civiqs Poll before the Iowa Caucuses shows Sanders gaining support from people who previously supported Julián Castro, Cory Booker and Tulsi Gabbard. Peterson says Sanders also gained about 10 percent of the people who supported Elizabeth Warren last month.

He says the poll also shows growing numbers of people who say they'll take part in the 2020 Iowa Caucuses.

"In our survey about 70 percent of Democrats and independents who we interviewed last month said they were going to participate in the caucus. That's up to almost 80 percent this month" Peterson says.

The 2020 Iowa Caucuses are Monday.
