Big Crowds, Traffic Delays Expected Downtown for HS State Wrestling

DES MOINES, Iowa - Big crowds are expected for the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament starting today in downtown Des Moines.

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the event now through Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center.

Des Moines Police and Polk County Sheriffs' deputies will be working to ensure safety, and smooth traffic flow.

They're expecting delays, especially during morning and evening commutes.

Officers are asking local traffic in and out of Downtown on I-235 to use the the Keo Way or 7th Street exits if traveling west, or the the E.14th St or E. 6th St exits if traveling east.

Des Moines Police are expecting more delays downtown early next month with the Boys and Girls High School State Basketball Tournaments.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Girls High School State Basketball Tournament takes place March 2-7. The IHSAA Boys High School State Basketball Tournament takes place March 9-13.
