Landlord, Father Plead Not Guilty in Oskaloosa Child's House Fire Death

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - A landlord and the father of a 7-year-old boy killed in a house fire in Oskaloosa have pleaded not guilty to felony charges.

Ronald Fogle, the father of seven-year-old David Fogle, and Kahal Chauhan are charged with three counts of neglect of a dependent person and three counts of child endangerment.

Court records don't specify how the two were connected to the fire.

But the indictment says they recklessly exposed the child to a hazard, and aided and abetted each other in doing so.

The Oskaloosa Herald reports the two-story house was converted to a seven-unit dwelling, and heating and electrical work was done without proper permits. The house was built in 1893.
