Charges Dropped in Des Moines Crash that Killed Two

Des Moines, Iowa - Vehicular Homicide charges have been dropped in a crash on Des Moines southwest side that killed two people last month.

26-year-old Mauricio Quintana and 23-year-old Brayan Ruiz died after their car collided in an intersection with a car driven by 25-year-old Alejandro Contreras.

Police said witnesses stated that excessive speed was a factor in the crash, but court records say a lack of probable cause led to charges being dropped against Contreras. He was released from Polk County Jail Monday afternoon. Contreras pleaded not guilty to two-counts of Vehicular Homicide on February 21st.

The crash occurred February 20th on SW 9th Street in Des Moines.
