Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested After Two County Chase

MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa - A man accused of attempted murder is in jail after leading police on a chase that criss-crossed through northeast metro Des Moines.

Thursday Night at roughly 7:45, Mitchellville Police tried to pull over Dillon Lester for not having a license plate before they say he led them on a chased on I-80 through Polk into Jasper counties, and then back into Polk County.

At one point, police determinied he abandoned his car on foot, and then forced his way into another car against the driver's will and forced them to drive off. Mitchellville Police eventually tracked that car down and made a felony stop in the 8600 block of 78th Avenue in Mitchellville.

Lester was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail. He faces two counts of attempted murder in Adams County, and is now charged with 3rd Degree Kidnapping as well as Possession of a Controlled Substance, Reckless Driving and five counts of Driving on the Wrong Side of a Two-Way Highway.

Four agencies were involved in the chase, including Mitchellville Police, Altoona Police, the Polk County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
