DES MOINES, Iowa - An LGBTQ group says around 150 students were removed from the Iowa Capitol building yesterday.
One Iowa says state patrol troopers removed the students after a group of LGBTQ students used the men's room instead of the gender neutral restroom.
The students were at the capitol with Iowa Safe Schools for Student Day.
Executive Director Nate Monson says he was meeting with lawmakers and touring the capitol when he was told some students were asked not to use the restroom.
Troopers said security officials tried three times to get the group to use a gender-neutral restroom before escorting them out.
The Iowa Civil Rights Commission has weighed in. The group says the Iowa Civil Rights Act protects access to restrooms that match gender identity. One Iowa is asking for an apology.
